Public Schools
A strong public school system where all students achieve success is the foundation of a dynamic community, and this region is no exception. Northwest Independent School District (NISD) is one of the most progressive school districts in the state where staff and community members are committed to excellence. Through dynamic partnerships, the communities and school district are preparing all students for a successful future. Northwest ISD serves the majority of the Northwest Metroport Chamber’s region. The Town of Northlake is served by both Northwest ISD and Argyle ISD, while the Town of Westlake is served by Northwest, Carroll and Keller school districts.
About Northwest ISD
Northwest Independent School District (NISD) operates 25 separate campuses, spanning parts of three counties (Denton, Tarrant and Wise) and 14 municipalities. This includes 16 elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, and an accelerated high school. Northwest ISD is the second fastest growing school district in the state, and the staff is committed to preparing students to be future ready:
- Ready for college
- Ready for the global workplace
- Ready for personal success
As a leader in public education, Northwest ISD has earned recognition in Texas and across the United States. In the past year, Northwest ISD has been honored with the following:
- District Excellence Award for Digital Learning (Top U.S. District for Digital Learning): 2011
- Best Community for Music Education: 2011, 2010, 2009
- National Exemplary School Safety Award: 2010
- CREST Award for Counseling Excellence: 2010, 2009
- High School “College Readiness” Award: 2010
- Middle School “School to Watch” Honor: 2011
Northwest ISD attracts approximately 1,400 new students and their families each year. This rapid growth is a result of several factors: strong communities; the number of active housing developments; the attractive lifestyle in the area made possible by the strong housing, retail and business opportunities; and a number of NISD's programs and initiatives, like:
- Netbooks (mini laptops) for all 6th-12th grade students
- Career Academies for high school students
- Highly-ranked athletics and fine arts programs
- Higher test scores than state and national averages
